ES Futures — Cycle Day 3 | December Contract Rollover

Mission Accomplished. Cycle Positive. Bulls Keep the Football.

Monday opened with two items already stamped across the trading desk:

Cycle Day 3 and Contract Rollover.

With ES trading above the Cycle Day 1 Low at 7585.50, the Positive Three-Day Cycle was already in excellent shape coming into the session.

Meanwhile, PTG officially rolled the charts forward to the December (Z) contract, meaning traders had another variable thrown into the auction just for entertainment purposes.

Because apparently trading wasn’t complicated enough already.

Today’s Line in the Sand was 7685, and that became the dividing line between continuation and repair.

🎯 TWO-WAY TRAFFIC

The premarket roadmap was beautifully simple.

🟢 Above 7685 ±5

The Bull Roadmap called for:

⬆️ 7705
⬆️ 7715
⬆️ 7725

A Clear & Convert above 7725 would have opened the runway toward 7745.

🔴 Below 7685 ±5

The Bear Roadmap called for:

⬇️ 7665
⬇️ 7655
⬇️ 7650

Below 7650 would have increased the probability of Long Liquidation / Range Expansion.

The market’s response?

Why choose a direction when you can raid targets on both sides of the battlefield?

⚔️ MORNING — CHOP, ROTATION & OPPORTUNITY

The morning session wasn’t exactly a trend trader’s amusement park.

Price rotated around the battlefield while traders worked the edges rather than chasing the middle.

The room produced several excellent discussions around BLTs, ATA signals, ATR risk, VWAP, the 89 EMA and trading from the edge of a range.

One particularly nice BLT short around 7681 produced approximately +14 points, demonstrating once again that waiting for location beats chasing motion.

Or, as the room appropriately summarized:

Patience is everything. Wait for the right setup.

Measure twice.

Cut once.

And preferably install the boat’s drain plug before leaving the dock.

🎯 TARGET MASTER WENT TO WORK

As the session developed, the roadmap began collecting trophies.

First:

7665 Bear Target — FULFILLED

Then the Bulls took possession.

At 12:34 PM:

7705 Bull Target — FULFILLED

And shortly after 1:00 PM:

7715 Bull Target — FULFILLED

The market had now successfully traded objectives on both sides of the 7685 LIS.

Classic two-way auction.

But Cycle Day 3 still had unfinished business.

🚀 THE CYCLE MISSION

The real objective wasn’t merely hitting intraday targets.

The larger mission remained completion of the Positive Three-Day Cycle.

Late in the session, the Bulls finally put the matter to bed.

The Cycle’s upside Penetration Target at 7718.79 was fulfilled, while price remained comfortably above the Cycle Day 1 Low at 7585.50.

✅ POSITIVE THREE-DAY CYCLE — COMPLETE

Mission accomplished.

No prophecy required.

Just statistics, structure and price doing what price ultimately had to do.

💤 AFTERNOON — HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER

Once the primary work was completed, the afternoon turned into another episode of:

High Plains Drifter

Contract rollover continued.

Movement became negligible.

Volatility evaporated.

And traders waiting for the next massive directional opportunity probably had enough time to reorganize their sock drawer.

There was simply no reason to manufacture trades.

Sometimes the highest-quality execution decision is:

Do absolutely nothing.

🏦 THE ELEPHANT WAITING FOR WEDNESDAY

Rollover wasn’t the only force suppressing enthusiasm.

The market was also staring directly at Wednesday’s FOMC decision and press conference.

By early afternoon, the room noted market-implied odds for a 25-basis-point rate hike had moved above 90%.

With that decision looming, institutional participation had little incentive to show its entire hand Monday afternoon.

So the prevailing rhythm remained:

Roll. Wait. Position. Repeat.

Wednesday gets the verdict.

🏁 FINAL SCORECARD

Cycle Day: 3
Contract: December (Z) rollover
LIS: 7685
CD1 Low: 7585.50

🎯 7665 Bear Target — FULFILLED
🎯 7705 Bull Target — FULFILLED
🎯 7715 Bull Target — FULFILLED
🎯 7718.79 Cycle Penetration Target — FULFILLED

🟢 POSITIVE THREE-DAY CYCLE — COMPLETE

The Bulls completed their statistical obligation, and Tuesday begins a fresh Cycle Day 1.

🏈 Bulls have the ball.

Whether they run with it or immediately fumble it back to the Bears will be tomorrow’s problem.

🧠 PTG TACTICAL TAKEAWAY

Trade location, not emotion. The 7685 LIS provided the battlefield; price provided the confirmation.

Two-way markets require two-way thinking. Both the 7665 downside target and 7705/7715 upside objectives were fulfilled.

Patience remains a trading strategy. The morning rewarded traders who waited for quality setups rather than forcing trades through the chop.

Know when the mission is complete. Once the Cycle Penetration Target was fulfilled and the Positive Three-Day Cycle secured, there was no medal awarded for overtrading the dead afternoon.

Respect rollover. Respect the Fed. Respect the levels.

Tomorrow begins a new cycle.

Fresh battlefield. Fresh statistics. Fresh opportunity.

Alignment → Assignment → Attack.

Trade Well.
